Malus Tschonoskii Tree

This distinctive, fiery-like bold tree stands long and strong! The tree is very hard to miss. The almost cone like shaped tree is native to Eastern Asia and Japan. The young, fresh and lush foliage is a silvery white colour in the spring months. The leaves darken to a rich, but bright green in Summer. The flowers are white with a hint of pink in them as well as a very slight scent – these appear in April and May.

The Tschonoskii Crab Apple Tree then puts on its focal display in autumn – the much anticipated explosion of bold yellows, oranges, maroons and purples! In addition to the trees spectacular foliage, the small reddish, greenish yellow tinged crab apples appear. During this display the tree maintains its narrow habit making it perfect for transforming a restricted space into an eye catching spot.

The medium sized tree reaches a height and spread of 5m x 4m in a 20 year period. The tree is very well suited to most soils and will do exceptionally well in moist, well-drained soil. It will make a wonderful addition to your urban garden as it can withstand a fair amount of pollution.

You may even attract some pretty and indigenous garden birds who absolutely love the tiny crab apples. There will be more than enough to go around – for your garden display and the birds!
