Katy Apple Tree

The Malus domestica ‘Katy’ is an early-season versatile apple, Katy apples are usually pink-red in colour over a pale green background.

The Malus domestica ‘Katy’ produces these apples in high quantities regardless of the weather. It is also an excellent variety for juicing, although it is regarded as a dessert apple, due to its high acidic content it can be used for baking as well. The slices keep their shape however soften significantly.

Apple are one of the easier fruit trees to grow and are increasingly becoming more popular with gardeners. They are medium sized deciduous trees with flashy Spring flowers and ornamental or edible fruit in the Autumn.

Apple trees benefit from growing in slightly sheltered, sunny area, as the blossom will attract a large variety of pollinators as well as the sun will help ripen the fruit.

The Malus domestica ‘Katy’ was raised from a cross between James Grieve and Worcester Pearmain, two of Britain’s favourite apples.

MM106 (Semi Dwarfing) are suitable for all forms except standards. The apple trees are tolerant to various soils like grass orchards and poor soils. Widely used rootstock, but not for small gardens. This tree will begin fruiting after three or four years with a ultimate height of between 3-4m.

M26 (Dwarfing) are good for spindlebush, espalier and ideal for containers. Typically starts fruiting after two or three years with an ultimate height of between 2.4-3m.
